Laksha Deepotsavam organised to mark Karthika Pournami in Srisailam

Kurnool: In view of Karthika Pournami, the authorities of Sri Bramarambhaika Mallikarjuna Swamy temple in Srisailam on Sunday performed Jwala Thoranam and other religious events in a traditional manner. This year, the Pournami came on Sunday afternoon and containued upto Monday afternoon. The authorities have made elaborate arrangements to meet the devotees rush on this auspicious occasion, said the temple executive officer K S Rama Rao.

The EO, in a press release on Sunday, said that Pournami was considered a very auspicious day of Karthika Masam. In the wake of Covid-19 protocol, the devotees were strictly advised not to attend in groups. On this auspicious occasion, more than lakh pilgrims had witnessed the event and offered prayers. Later they lit 'Karthika deepams' on the premises of Srisailam temple on Sunday evening.

Half of the visitors took holy dip in Patala Ganga and floated about 1 lakh 'Kartika deepams' in the holy waters as part of Laksha Deepotsavam organised by temple. All devotees chanted 'Om Namasivaiah' during the event of Maha Mangala Harathulu offered to Krishnaveni Nadeemathalli. The temple authorities, late in the evening, at the main temple, the traditional event 'Jwala thoronam' was organised.

On the occasion, the general darshan has taken 4-5 hours while special darshan took 3-4 hours. Temple executive officer K S Rama Rao has made elaborate arrangements and tight security to avoid any untoward incidents.

Similarly, at Mahanandi Temple, the devotees lit one crore Karthika deepams around the temple premises after falling of lights on the occasion of Karthika Pournima. Yaganti temple officials also performed Deepotsavam on the temple premises. Mantralayam mutt officials have organised the Thunga Harathi, part of Karthika Pournami festival.

Meanwhile the devotees floated nearly one lakh Deepams in the holy waters at Tungabhadra River. Jagannatha gattu, Nagareswara swamy temple, New Ayyappa swami temple, Saibaba temple, Rambotla Temple in Kurnool city also filled with heavy rush of devotees. Thousands of devotees dropped Karthika Deepams in KC Canal at Vinayaka ghat.
