Vijayawada: The first batch of NRIs from the US arrived in Vijayawada on Sunday and the district officials welcomed the passengers.

In all, 34 NRIs from Chicago, the US, arrived at the Shamshabad Airport and later the Krishna district officials have brought the NRIs to Vijayawada. The first batch of NRIs belongs to Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, Nellore, West Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Chittoor, Kadapa, Kurnool and Anantapur districts and they have to be quarantined for 14 days.

District Collector Md Imtiaz, Joint Collector K Madhavi Latha, Sub-Collector A Dhyanachandra and tourism officer Velaga Joshi welcomed the NRIs at the Berm Park in Bhavanipuram.

Earlier, the district administration has arranged special buses to bring back NRIs to the State from Hyderabad. District Collector Imtiaz has announced that 14 days quarantine is must as per the rules and arrangements were made to their stay in hotels.

Tourism officer Velaga Joshi has said that quarantine facilities were arranged in 15 hotels and foreign returnees have to pay for the stay. Food will be served by the hotels.
