Amaravati: The political parties have geared up for the Rajya Sabha elections in the State, as the Election Commission released reschedule. The revised date for the polling and counting of the Rajya Sabha elections is June 19, Friday. In fact, due to spreading of the COVID19 pandemic and followed by lockdown, the Election Commission of India cancelled the earlier election procedure in the month of March.

There are four vacancies for the Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh, but five members filed nominations from both TDP and YSRCP. In fact, as per the number of votes concerned, the YSRCP will easily get the four out of the four but TDP also deployed the party Politburo member Varla Ramaiah as its candidate in the RS polls. The YSRCP also placed four candidates including Ministers and MLCs Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, Mopidevi Venkata Ramana, industrialists Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy and another big shot from Reliance group Parimal Nathwani.

As the YSRCP government wants to abolish the AP Legislative Council, the Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy gave an opportunity to the party senior leaders including Venkata Ramana and Subhash Chandra Bose. On the other hand, Ayodhya Rami Reddy is the brother of party strong leader and MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy. Meanwhile, on the request of the Reliance Group's Mukesh Ambani, Jagan gave an opportunity to Nathwani. The YSRCP has 151 votes, TDP has 23 MLAs, including the defected members and the Jana Sena has one vote in the Rajya Sabha elections.

In fact, the Rajya Sabha biennial elections were supposed to be completed on March 26. If there are only four candidates in the contest, then there would be no elections. But, as five candidates have been contesting in the elections, the polling is inevitable.

The polling will be conducted from 9 am to 4 pm on June 19 and then the counting of votes will be completed by 5 pm, according to the statement issued by the State Chief Electoral Officer. The entire selection procedure will be completed by June 22, Monday.
