The Veeravasaram police have arrested one person posing himself as goldsmith for allegedly cheating a woman by stealing her gold jewelry on the pretext of cleaning her gold jewelry.

Bhimavaram: The Veeravasaram police have arrested one person posing himself as goldsmith for allegedly cheating a woman by stealing her gold jewelry on the pretext of cleaning her gold jewelry. The accused is identified as Gopal Sah of Bihar.

According to the police, Gopal dressed like a decent man approached the woman, K Bhulakshmi of Buddharayuducheruvu under Konitivada panchayat on Thursday. He introduced himself as goldsmith and forced the woman to give her jewelry to him for polishing it.

Though she was reluctant to offer her ornaments, Gopal managed to convince her. She handed over to him her three-and-a-half tolas of 'mangalasutra'. The accused mixed the gold ornament in chemicals he brought with him and returned after some time. When the victim weighed it again, she noticed that the ornament loss one tola weight.

In the meantime, local people caught the 'goldsmith' and handed him over to the police. Similar incidents of stealing of gold on the pretext of polishing were reported in recent times at Panjavemavaram and Veeravasaram.
