Amaravati: Those who booked flats in the HappyNest housing project in Amaravati have been expressing concerns over the worthiness of the venture as the YSRCP government seems to have put on hold the capital city itself.

Though Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy announced that HappyNest construction would be done through reverse tendering to benefit the buyers byway of reducing costs, many of those who booked flats in the once-prestigious project are expressing pessimism saying that there would be of no use with the venture without Amaravati.

They are observing that development around the HappyNest would be zero without the capital city.

The YSRCP government issued modalities to construct the 'Amaravati HappyNest, a residential project at Nelapadu in capital city Amaravati, through tender-cum-reverse auctioning process, suspending the present contract.

It maintains that it would reduce the burden on the beneficiaries. The previous TDP government awarded to Shapoorji and Pallonji but Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy ordered reverse tendering procedure to benefit the buyers.

Municipal administration and urban development minister Botcha Satyanarayana said that as committed, the government would construct the residential apartments with same quality through reverse tenders. He said reduction in costs would benefit stakeholders only.

A BJP leader T Padma, who purchased a flat in the HappyNest, expressed many doubts on the project. She questioned what would be the use even after constructing the apartments if the capital was not constructed by the government here.

"The existence of capital itself is uncertain now. We want to demand APCRDA to return our money. Instead of showing determination to build capital city, the government has been making many confusing statements regularly. The farmers, who gave lands under land pooling scheme, are in deep depression. The government did not give any assurance on the development of the capital, but saying it will construct the residential apartments.

We invested here not to stay there right now but expecting appreciation in future because it is in capital. Otherwise, we might have purchased properties in Vijayawada city itself. We hoped that there will be development and our children could benefit from it," she said.

She said that despite repeated attempts, none of the officials are giving clarity on the fate of capital.. "We, a group of people of HappyNest customers, are planning to give representations to the government," Padma said.
