Kurnool: 30 villagers fall ill after consuming contaminated water
Villagers, who consumed contaminated water, were being treated at medical camps set up in Jampa Puram and Sajjala Thanda on Tuesday

Kurnool: Several residents of Sajjala Guden and Jampa Puram villages in Kosigi mandal fell ill after consuming contaminated water. The incident came to light on Tuesday with the news went viral in social media. The medical authorities immediately rushed to the villages and set up medical camps to treat the patients.
Sudhakar, a resident of Jampa Puram village, speaking to the media said that people falling ill was started two days ago. Around five persons have fallen ill suddenly in the village, he said. All the villagers were first taken to Kosigi primary health care centre for treatment.
While they are being treated at the PHC, several people also suffered with the same symptoms. In addition to the village, the people of Sajjala Thanda also fell sick, said Sudhakar. Sudhakar attributed the reasons for falling sick to unclean surroundings and no supply of safe drinking water.
The water tanks in the village were not cleaned and the officials of concerned department are least concerned to clean the surroundings. Despite the issue taken to the notice of gram panchayat officials no one is concerned to address the issues, decried the resident.
Dr Keerthi Priya speaking to The Hans India said that it all started two days ago that people of both villages were falling ill. They were all suffering with diarrhea due to consumption of contaminated water. A pipeline which supplies safe drinking water was broken with which the outside water got mixed. The residents who are unaware of it have consumed the contaminated water and after some time they fell sick, said Keerthi Priya.
On learning about the issue, a team of doctors along with medical staff rushed to the villages and set up medical camps. Up to Monday around 30 villagers from Sajjala Guden and Jampa Puram were given treatment. Only one or two patients were referred to Adoni government general hospital for treatment. The situation has been brought to control.
The issue was also taken to the notice of District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Dr Rama Giddaiah and Additional District Medical and Health Officer. They have visited the villages and pursued the situation. Even the officials of Panchayat Raj department were also alerted, said Dr Keerthi Priya, adding the medical camps would continue for another 10 more days.
