Kurnool: The 12-day Tungabhadra Pushkaralu concluded with Purnahuti Homam in the district on Tuesday. The fete was officially launched by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on November 20 at Sankal Bagh puskar ghat. Veda pundits performed Purnahuti Homan at Abhijit Lagnam at Sankal Bagh puskar ghat downing curtains for the sacred event.

District collector G Veera Pandiyan along with his wife Andal, superintendent of police (SP) Dr Fakkeerappa Kaginelli, joint collectors Rama Sunder Reddy, Syed Khaza Mohiuddin, commissioner of Kurnool Municipal Corporation D K Balaji and his wife Prudvi Kalyani participated at the homan in traditional attire.

Later, speaking on occasion, the collector thanked one and all for making the pushkaralu a grand success. He said pushkaralu were organised despite the prevalence of Covid-19 and the people who participated in the religious event also extended their support. "We were able to conclude the 12- day programme successfully without witnessing any untoward incidents. The people who attended on the pushkaralu have expressed their satisfaction over the arrangements," Pandian said.

SP Fakkeerappa Kaginelli said that they had succeeded in conducting the pushkaralu with the support and cooperation of people. The staff, particularly sanitation, traffic, communication and others have performed their responsibilities well, he lauded.

The district collector said that the municipal corporation had spent Rs 7.50 lakh for purchasing 30 police control wireless sets. The wireless sets have been handed over to the traffic DSP, Mahaboob Basha by the collector, the SP and municipal commissioner.
