The National Monitoring Committee on Monday ordered the National Human Rights Commission to review the rehabilitation cases of the Polavaram Project. Polavaram, a national project, believes that there is a lack of transparency and violation of human rights.

Pentapati Pullarao complained to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in 2013 that people were being evacuated from villages, without compensation for rehabilitation.

In this regard, the NMC has ordered the NHRC to look into rehabilitation and compensation for the people affected by the Polavaram project. Similarly, it has suggested re-open closed cases on rehabilitation in the past.

Recently, the Delhi High Court has directed the Ministry of Power and Energy to investigate the irregularities in the construction of the Polavaram project and take appropriate action.
