As part of the ‘National Nutrition Week’ observed till September 7, a campaign was initiated by Nature, a local civil society organization, in tribal areas to sensitise about the importance of avoiding myths and misconceptions on quacks and other practices in tribal areas.

Visakhapatnam: As part of the 'National Nutrition Week' observed till September 7, a campaign was initiated by Nature, a local civil society organization, in tribal areas to sensitise about the importance of avoiding myths and misconceptions on quacks and other practices in tribal areas.

Taking a folk route, the NGO is organising Kalajatha, group discussions with community based organisations, sensitising village level key service providers (Guru, guniya, herbal medical practitioner, traditional birth attendants and frontline workers) for assessing risks and referrals to nearest and appropriate health centres and hospitals.

Teams of resource persons from Nature will educate the community, pregnant women and lactating mothers about regular checkup and the need to take nutritious food. According to director of nature S B Balaraju, 28 high risk villages were covered under the campaign and referred eligible beneficiaries to the services.
