Minister for Water Resources Dr P Anil Kumar says that the claims of former Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao that 70 per cent of Polavaram works were completed during TDP rule are not correct

Nellore: Minister for Water Resources Dr P Anil Kumar took flayed TDP senior leader Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and challenged him to prove that TDP government had completed 70 per cent of Polavaram project work.

Anil Kumar addressed the media here on Friday and said a lie would never become truth though it is repeated many times.

"Devineni has been saying that they had completed major portion of works relating to Polavaram, Veligonda, Galeru-Nagari, and Handri-Neeva projects. He has been saying they used to shift 400-500 tmc feet of water every year from Pothireddypadu project.

Now, he is accusing me of selling water from Somasila reservoir. I challenge that they had not shifted even 400 tmc feet of water during their five-year term. Officials maintain accounts and one can check at any time," said Anil.

He criticised that out of 18-km length tunnel of Veligonda, the TDP had completed only 3 km in 5 years. Former chief minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy had proposed Chitravati and Gandikota projects at a cost of Rs. 2,500 crore.
