Tirupati: Leaders of various city based associations demanded the government to declare October 1, the day on which Andhra State was carved out from Madras state in 1953, as State Formation Day.

Leaders including Rayalaseema Intellectual Forum (RIF) convener M Purushottam Reddy, Rayalaseema Porata Samithi (RPS) district convener P Naveen Kumar Reddy, noted psychologist NB Sudhakar Reddy carried posters and stood at the statue

of Potti Sriramulu who sacrificed his life for separate state. They raised slogans in support of their demand.

After Telangana area was separated, the remaining state is geographically is the one that was formed as Andhra State on October 1, 1953, they said to point that the date is more appropriate for declaring as State Formation Day to observe officially every year.
