The government has spent about Rs 9,000 crore for the treatment of more than 40 lakh people for various diseases
Ongole: Dr YSR Aarogyasri Health Care Trust special officer Dr Yadala Ashok Babu informed that the government is going to offer the Thrombolysis injection at all primary health centres in the state.
Speaking at a press meet in Ongole on Tuesday, he said that the government is also establishing a Kidney Research Centre in the Prakasam and Srikakulam districts and developing all government hospitals to be ready for National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) standards and apply for its accreditation.
Dr Ashok Babu explained that the YSR Congress Party increased the number of procedures covered under the YSR Aarogyasri from 1059 to 3257, and the number of empanelled hospitals from 919 to 2293.
He said that the government has spent about Rs 9,000 crore for the treatment of more than 40 lakh people for various diseases, and another Rs 1,000 crore under YSR Aasara for economic support to the patients who underwent major surgeries.
The special officer said that the government want poor people in the state to receive the best quality treatment. He said the Government Hospital for Mental Care, and Government Hospital for Chest and Communicable Diseases in Visakhapatnam received NABH accreditations.
He said that they are planning to apply for the same for all government hospitals after upgrading them to the WHO standards. He said that the government want to run at least two PHCs at the mandal level, a 30-bed hospital at the constituency level and a medical college at the district-level and said that the government is opening five medical colleges with 750 seats from the next academic year.
He said that every procedure for cancer treatment is covered under Aarogyasri. Bone marrow transplantation, heart transplantation, TIFFA scan, bi-cochlear implants, and knee replacements are also covered in the Aarogyasri now.
He informed that the patients can also get treatment for approved diseases at 204 super speciality hospitals in Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru. He said that they are also providing nutritious diets to pregnant women as part of the Aarogyasri.
Having served as a doctor in rural areas of the Prakasam district, Ashok Babu said that many people in the district are suffering from chronic kidney diseases and succumbing to heart attacks.
He explained that the groundwater in Kanigiri, Markapur and other areas in the western region of the district contain dangerous amounts of fluoride, titanium, and zinc, and are causing life-threatening diseases. Considering the facts, Jagan Mohan Reddy has given clearance to establish Kidney Research Centres in the Prakasam district and at Uddanam in the Srikakulam district. The Thrombolysis injection, which is around Rs 40,000, is being used to buy some time to shift the patient, suffering from chest pain, from the rural places to the hospital in town.
The government offered the injection in the PHCs at Tirupati and Visakhapatnam district on a pilot basis and was satisfied with the result. The Aarogyasri Trust will be offering the Thrombolysis injection in every PHC in the state soon.
