Ongole: Prakasam district collector Dr Pola Bhaskara appointed special officers for the 11 coastal mandals and arranged a control room for help and information for the public in the district during the landfall of the Nivar cyclone.

The collector ordered the officials to take all preparatory arrangements to handle the loss due to cyclone and keep the electricity, communication, agriculture, animal husbandry, medical and health, sanitation, transport, and other related departments ready to face tough situations. He said that there were 40 revenue villages and 134 habitations and advised to consider the village as a unit for action. He asked them to alert the village secretariats staff and take help of the NGOs, if required.

The collector visited the Ulavapadu mandal tahsildar office on Wednesday and said that the cyclone will make landfall at around 02.00 AM to 03.00 AM on Thursday. He ordered the officials to arrange earthmovers, proclainer ready to remove the trees, poles and towers fell on roads to clear movement of vehicles as well as restore power immediately and ordered the APSPDCL, revenue, R&B, and police officials to work with coordination.

He ordered the officials to see that there is no shortage of milk for infants, food for the pregnant women, old aged and others at the rehabilitation centres. Keep the generators ready for restoration electricity in them. The collector said that they have arranged a control room in the Collectorate, and the public can call 1077 for help, if required.
