Prakasam SP launches 2nd phase of 'Project JIO'

Ongole: Prakasam District SP Siddharth Kaushal launched the second phase of Project JIO (Junior Investigation Officers) and felicitated six JIOs and one mentor for their outstanding performance in the investigations, up to now.
The SP has ambitiously started 'Project JIO' on September 12, 2019, said to be for the first time in the country, involving the junior staff like constables, head constables and ASIs in the investigation of cases.
The second phase of the project was launched on Saturday via video conference, with about 500 JIOs and police officers participating in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the SP said that Project JIO is being implemented only in the Prakasam district in the country. He said that the project has won the prestigious national SKOCH award, and the members of the SKOCH jury suggested the government to implement the project all over the country for better results in investigation.
He said that an average of about 12,000 cases are being registered in the district each year and the investigation officers, above the rank of SIs investigate them. But in the last year, 98 per cent of the cases were investigated by the JIOs, while the senior officers supervised them by imparting investigating techniques, resulting in the number of under investigation cases reduce significantly, he pointed out.
To know about the field-level implementation of Project JIO, the SP interacted with one JIO each from a police station, circle office and DSP offices via video-conference in the presence of all the police officers in the district. He inquired about the challenges they faced in the investigation and shared his ideas for solving them.
He also took feedback and suggestions from the JIOs and assured them to implement a few of them in the next phase. The SP announced that 500 JIOs in the district have registered a total of 13,938 cases and started the investigation in 13,659 by themselves, while the remaining 279 serious cases are being investigated by the DSPs, CIs, and SIs. He said that in those 13,659 cases, they have filed charge-sheets in courts in 11,640 cases successfully.
On the occasion, the SP awarded the best JIOs awards to head constable K Madhusudan of Ongole subdivision, head constable T Sivakumari from Chirala subdivision, head constable G Mohan Rao from Darsi subdivision, head constable P Chennakesava Reddy from Markapur subdivision, ASI K Assam Saheb from Kandukur subdivision and best excellence award to ASI D Srinivas from Ongole taluk police station.
He also presented the Best Mentor award to Kondapi SI V Rambabu for his training the JIOs. The SP appreciated the officers for their commitment and advised them to continue the spirit to achieve professional satisfaction.
