Rajamahendravaram: Indian Lawyers Association (ILA) state president and AP Bar Council member Mupalla Subba Rao has said 40 lakh people would lose their citizenship, if the Central government implements National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Addressing a gathering at Azad Chowk here on Monday, where protest programmes were continuing for 80 days against NRC he said the citizens including Muslims, SC/STs, Adivasis and many others will loose their Indian citizenship.

NRC is against to the Articles 14 and 19 of Indian Constitution. But the Central government moving ahead to implement NRC, he said.

The Central government assuring to give citizenship to Hindus coming from Afghanistan and not saying a word relating to Sri Lanka Tamils as they vote only for DMK and AIADMK, he alleged.

The BJP government was playing dangerous games with the people and trying to go ahead with their actions setting aside the Constitution, he added.
