Kurnool: The Sankranti Brahmotsavams started on a grand note at Srisailam temple here on Monday. Temple Executive Officer (EO) K S Rama Rao, in a press release, stated that the Brahmotsavams would be celebrated up to January 17. In the week-long celebrations, Visesharachanas to God Mallikarjuna Swamy, special pujas to Goddess Bharmarambhika Devi would be offered.

Apart from this, Rudra homam, Chandi homam, Navagraha manadaparadhana, Kalasarchana, Japas and Parayanas would be organised on daily basis. As part of Paryananam, this year Srisailakhanda Parayanam in Skanda Purana would be organised, said the EO.

He further said that following agama shastra, the programmes were started at 8.30 am in the morning at the temple premises. As a symbol of starting of Brahmotsavams, the officials, temple archakas and veda pundits have made yagasala entries. Later, the veda pundits performed veda swasti with chaturveda parayanam, Rama Rao said.

Siva Sankalpam, Ganapathi Puja, Chandeeshwara Puja, Kankana Puja-Kankana Dharana, Rutwij Varanam and Akhanda Deepana Stapana were also performed. Later in the evening, Anakurparpanam and Dwajarohana were performed besides decorating the temple premises with flowers. At the Ankurarpanam, the authorities after securing soil have taken to Yagasala.

Later the secured soil would be poured in 9 pots and sprinkle seeds in them. After some days of continuous watering, the seeds will begin to sprout. This kind of process is known as Ankurarpana.

After Ankurarpana, Dwajarohana was also organised. As part of it, a flag was hoisted on the main Dwajastambam on the temple premises. The temple authorities would print Nandeeshwara the chariot of Parama Siva and Asta Mangala paintings on a new cloth.

This is called as Nandi Dwajapatam and for tying the Dwajapatam a rope would be woven with thread. Later the Nandi Dwajapatam would be taken upto Dhwaja stambha as a procession and prayers would be offered in the presence of Chandeeswara swamy.

As part of Dwajarohana, Bheri puja was offered. And lastly, the Dwaja Patam would be hoisted on the Dwaja Stambh. The flag hoisted on the Dhwaja Stambha is an invitation to all gods, Yaksha, Gandharva Ghanas. Nivedana would be offered to the gods that visit during the occasion, stated the authorities of Srisailam temple. According to agama sastras, the gods and goddess that visit during the occasion would view the utsavams.
