Vijayawada: Special drive will be conducted from November 20 to December 20 to identify the eligible students to implement the Jagananna Vidya Deevena and Jaganna Vasati Deevena in the district. Under the scheme, eligible students who are studying degree, PG and professional courses, will get Rs 20,000 financial assistance every year.

Village and ward volunteers will conduct the survey to identify eligible students. Families below Rs 2.50 lakh income per annum are eligible for the scheme. Students studying in day scholar institutions and hostels are also eligible for scheme.

A meeting was convened at Ambedkar Bhavan here on Saturday to explain the details of implementation of the scheme. Addressing on the occasion, Collector Md Imtiaz said over 2.50 lakh students would be benefitted with the scheme.

He said children of sanitation workers, car, taxi and tractor drivers were also eligible for the scheme. Children of government employees, Income Tax payers, students studying in deemed universities and students of distance education are not eligible for scheme. Principals of colleges and other educational institutions also participated in the meeting.
