Tadepalli: Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy told the Zilla Parishad CEOs and DPOs of all the districts not to be lenient towards the illegal layouts in the respective districts.

Addressing a review meeting with the district level officials, Panchayat Raj Principal Secretary Gopalakrishna Dwivedi and Commissioner Girija Shankar at the Panchayat Raj Commissioner's office here on Thursday, the minister said that the permissions should not be given to the illegal layouts at any cost and the officials should strictly follow the rules set by the government.

Recalling that during the TDP regime, the illegal layouts flourished, the Minister said that the DPOs and the CEOs should focus on the illegal layouts. The layouts should be periodically reviewed before giving permissions, he added.

The Minister said that the collection of house taxes was not up to the expectation and the officials should concentrate on it. "The village Panchayats should be encouraged to improve the revenue on their own," he said.

There should be random check on the panchayats to verify whether they were spending funds correctly on sanitation and drinking water supply. Focus should be on drinking water supply and sanitisation by launching a special drive from December 2 to 21.

He told the DPOs specifically that they should concentrate on setting up LED lamps in all the villages. The newly-formed municipalities should spend the funds in time for the development. The officials should make sure that the staff of the village secretariat attend the duties without fail.
