Ongole: The Telugu Desam Party leaders in the Prakasam district protested at various places demanding that the State government end the sand mafia and supply sand free of cost to the poor.

They also demanded the government to restart the Anna Canteen to end the woes of the poor and the downtrodden. The construction workers were feeling it hard to find work on a daily basis now, the leaders lamented.

In Ongole, TDP leaders including YV Subba Rao, Kamepalli Srinivasa Rao, Mantri Srinivasa Rao, Dr Raj Vimal Gurrala, town general secretary Dayaneni Dharma, Marneni Venkateshwarlu, Nalluri Kishore, Ravula Padma and others led the rally from the flyover on Kurnool road to the NTR Statue to the Addanki Bus Stand center.

In Kondapi, MLA Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, former AMC chairman Ramaiah Chowdary, mandal TDP president Yellamanda Naidu, Jarugumalli mandal TDP women president Mangapati Prasanthi, former MPTC president Vasanth and other local leaders protested at the bus stand center and said that the government is harassing the people by stopping the sand.

He alleged that the police are collecting thousands of rupees even though the poor people are bringing sand for self-use from the river bund with prior permission from revenue officials.
