Vijayawada: Collector Mohammad Imtiaz informed that there are about 23,000 AIDS patients in Krishna district. He took part in an awareness rally to mark World AIDS Day here on Sunday.

The collector flagged off the rally from Vijayawada Railway Station clock tower to Tummalapalli Kalakshetram organised by the District Medical and Health department. A huge number of people took part in the rally which includes DMHO officials, NGO organisations, students and others.

Speaking on the occasion, the District Collector said that everyone should feel the responsibility to eradicate and control the dreaded disease, AIDS, in the society. He said that medicines were being supplied to the patients through four ART centres in the district.

Everyone should have awareness on AIDS to keep it under control. Cultural programmes by folk artists through skits and songs on HIV/AIDS were being performed across the district to control the disease. He said that the number of AIDS patients in the district has significantly come down.
