Vijayawada: It is the collective responsibility of society to eradicate child labour lock, stock and barrel, said District Collector A Md Imtiaz while releasing the posters jointly produced by the National Child Labour Project and the Childline 1098 at the camp office here on Friday.

The parents should be sensitised that it was their foremost responsibility to provide education to their children, he said. He appealed to the people and non-government organisations to cooperate with the district administration to completely eradicate the child labour system in the society. Expressing concern over the continuing child labour, the collector said that children would lose their childhood. "Child labour even damages them psychologically and physically too," he added.

He warned that stern action would be taken against the industries that engage child labour. "It is the responsibility of all to make sure that children below the age 14 should go to school," he said.

D Anjaneya Reddy, district project director of National Child Labour Project, Arava Ramesh, district coordinator of Childline 1098, Director Neil Harper and Childline staff were also present.
