Vijayawada: District Collector Md Imtiaz on Tuesday announced that Rs 100 fine would be levied from those spotted without masks in the public places from Wednesday.
He said total number of Covid-19 cases had already reached 600 in Vijayawada and everyone must wear mask in the public places. Imtiaz conducted a review meeting with the officials at the camp office and discussed the ways and means to check the coronavirus in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, he said coronavirus positive cases crossed 800 in the district and 600 in Vijayawada city. He said it is unsafe to come out of homes and move in public places without mask.
Joint Collector Madhavi Latha, Commissioner of Police B Srinivasulu, Municipal Commissioner Prasanna Venkatesh and other officials attended the meeting.
Imtiaz said lockdown rules will be continued in the containment areas as usual.
He said 500 patients were discharged from the hospitals after the treatment and another 300 are undergoing treatment and appealed to the people to maintain physical distance in the public places and take precautions like use of sanitisers.
