Vijayawada: Thousands of people living in Nandamuri Nagar, RR Pet, Andhra Prabha colony and other areas are facing hardships due to slow progress of the underground drainage (UGD) pipeline laying works on the New RR Pet road. The VMC has taken up the UGD works long time ago but it halted works due to Covid-19 lockdown. However, the works resumed about one month ago. The pipeline laying works are continuing at a snail's pace on the New RR Pet between Nandamuri Nagar and Dabakotlu junction, where VMC drainage water sump is located. The 400 metres stretch works are continuing at a very slow pace causing hardships to thousands of people. A large number of people living RR Pet and Nandamuri Nagar are suffering due to lack of alternative road.

The existing Kucha roads are in very bad condition and vehicles are struck frequently in the mud. Vehicles carrying bricks, cement, sand and other loads are struck on the roads causing a lot of inconvenience to the other residents and commuters.

Moreover, two-wheeler riders are falling on the road due to skidding of vehicles. The hapless residents of Nandamuri Nagar, New RR Pet and other areas have been asking the VMC to complete the UGD pipeline works as early as possible and restore the road facility. Even VMC vehicles are also not able to pass and been struck in the mud in Nandamuri Nagar. The VMC has taken up the UGD works to help the residents to get rid of the water stagnation problem in the rainy areas in Nandamuri Nagar, Andhra Prabha colony and other nearby areas. As the rainy season to continue some more months, the hardships of denizens will continue, if the pipeline works are not completed as early as possible.
