Visakhapatnam: With the documentation work being completed on the three parameters such as quality of life, economic ability and sustainability as part of the ease of living index (EoLI) data assessment, the next part of the assessment includes citizen feedback, GVMC Commissioner G Srijana said on Friday.

Sharing details with reporters about the progress made by the Smart City in EoLI and municipal performance index (MPI) – 2019, launched recently by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), the Municipal Commissioner said the indices have been introduced to assess quality of life of citizens on various parameters. The assessment frameworks aim at improved planning and management and plugging the gaps in city administration.

"While the EoLI is assessed based on the performance of the city in general, MPI assessment depends on the performance of municipality on parameters such as service provided in education and health, among other segments, finance, technology, planning and governance," the civic chief elaborated.

Further, she stated that Visakhapatnam was the first city to complete 90 percent of the documentation work (the rest will be done by the MoHUA) among the four cities selected from Andhra Pradesh, including Kakinada, Tirupati and Vijayawada. "Though from our part, documentation has been submitted ahead of deadline, citizen feedback plays a role in making the assessment successful," Srijana added. The target is to get at least one per cent of the population's feedback for the purpose. Though 2,000 citizens have already gave their feedback, 15,000 more are yet to elicit their views in 15 days, the GVMC Commissioner mentioned.

The Municipal Commissioner appealed to the citizens to participate in the survey and rate the city to make score the top rank among the participation of 114 Smart cities across the country.

A poster 'Rate your city and share your views' was launched by the Municipal Commissioner along with the Additional Municipal Commissioner Thameen Ansariya.

Citizen feedback can be given through GVMC Official Facebook page or Twitter handle 'GVMC Official' or through downloading the app by logging on to Eol2019.org/citizenfeedback or scan the QR code mentioned on the poster or hoardings to take part in the survey.
