Marking the ‘World Restart a Heart day’, GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (GIMSR) Hospital organised mass training sessions in at public places and schools across the city on Wednesday.

Visakhapatnam: Marking the 'World Restart a Heart day', GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (GIMSR) Hospital organised mass training sessions in at public places and schools across the city on Wednesday.

With the theme centred on Compression-Only Life Support (COLS), a team of doctors and faculty members from GIMSR Anaesthesiology & Critical Care Department trained more than 200 people in multiple sessions.

This apart, GIMSR Hospital Anaesthesiology Department organised an awareness rally to mark World Anaesthesia Day and World Restart a Heart day at beach road and conducted a special training camp near the aircraft museum. The rally was flagged off by GITAM Vice-Chancellor K. Sivaramakrishna along with GIMSR Hospital Superintendent Shyama Prasad and Anaesthesiology Department Head D.Vijayakumar Rao.

CPR is a Life Saving Technique

While training the public on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) technique D.Vijayakumar Rao briefed that 90 percent of cardiac arrest occurs at home, at workplace or in a public place and many die if they fail to receive immediate CPR. He informed that every year out of one lakh victims, about 4,280 people die due to sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). He added that a sudden cardiac arrest causes irregular heartbeat, disrupting the flow of blood to the brain and other organs. He explained the CPR technique along with his team members.
