Visakhapatnam: Holding banners that have precautionary measures to be taken against coronavirus, an awareness campaign was conducted by Khurda division, East Coast Railway, to stay away from COVID-19 here on Tuesday.

Avoid shaking hands, keep washing hands with a sanitiser, wear a mask, distance yourself from those who cough or sneeze and cover the nose well before sneezing were some of the points the campaigners highlighted during the programme.

With a tagline 'Karuna leni corona' (corona that lacks sympathy), the campaigners tried to advocate the symptoms of COVID as well as precautionary measures to be considered.

As a part of the awareness programme, health inspectors, welfare inspectors, commercial inspectors, chief ticket inspectors and RPF have already been trained regarding the preventive steps against COVID-19. The trained staff will further train others.

Posters and banners have been displayed at Divisional Railway Hospitals/ Health units and at major stations. The staff distributed pamphlets listing 'Dos' and 'Don'ts' to the passengers.

Announcements regarding prevention of coronavirus are being regularly played in English, Hindi and Odiya languages at major stations across division.

Divisional Railway Manager Khurda Road, Shashi Kant Singh monitored the situation. The programme, attended by station master of Visakhapatnam railway station A. Arunasri, saw good participation from various departments.
