Visakhapatnam: Demanding that those working on contract basis should be made permanent at LG Polymers, residents of Venkatapuram staged a protest here on Tuesday.

As many as 250 people in Venkatapuram are working at the plant on contract basis. Since a majority of residents in the colony got affected due by the gas leak and all the 12 persons who lost their lives in the mishap that occurred on May 7 belonged to Venkatapuram, the locals demanded a health card worth Rs 10 lakh each, job opportunity for every family in the colony and a permanent hospital be set up with immediate effect.

Their demands also include adoption of the village for its betterment.

They urged the State government and the Ministers to do justice to them on a priority basis as they have been largely impacted due to the mishap.

About 200 people from Venkatapuram participated in the protest held near the plant. Earlier, they submitted a list of their demands to the LG Polymers' management as well.
