CPI state secretary Ramakrishna demanded the government to shut down of the Uranium Corporation of India refinery at R Thummalapalli near Pulivendula in Kadapa district. The drilling work to find uranium deposits in Allagadda district of Kurnool district is also to be stopped. He also demanded to hold a rachabanda program where the Uranium mining operations being conducted.

Ramakrishna said the people of the nearby villages are in serious trouble with the impact of uranium. He said groundwater is poisonous and people are getting infected. Opposition leaders toured villages in Keke Kottala near Uranium Factory Tailpond, R Thummalapalli. The problems of the factory are explained to the leaders of the parties.

The villagers of the KK Kottalas have alleged that women having miscarriages as the groundwater is contaminated. Ramakrishna claimed that nine women had miscarried recently in one village.

CPI leader Ramakrishna wrote to Chief Minister Jagan on issues that came to his attention during a visit to uranium-affected areas. People in the area are suffering from serious illnesses. They urged the immediate suspension of uranium mining, which is a severe threat to the environment.
