Hyderabad: Currently, India holds seven billion sft of green building footprint. The target is to reach 10 billion sft by 2022, which might be achieved beforehand, says CII-IGBC.

According to statistics provided by CII-IGBC, in India, there are 5,424 green building projects, more than 1,800 green offices, over 250 green factories and 14 lakh dwelling units.

Moreover, in 2018 itself the country added two billion sft of green space, making the target to reach 10 billion sft achievable before 2022, C Shekar Reddy, Chairman, IGBC Hyderabad Chapter, told reporters here.

Reddy further said that in the green building index, Maharashtra stands first with highest green space footprint, while Telangana ranks fifth with 242 million sft from over 355 green building projects registered with IGBC, in which, 126 operational establishments have received certification from the council.

He also informed that Telagana government has approached the Hyderabad Chapter of Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) for suggestions in relation to making the upcoming Secretariat building in compliance with the council's certification, one among these parameters includes energy efficiency on lines of ECBC (Energy Conservation Building Code) 2017.

Meanwhile, 17th edition of Green Building Congress 2019 will be held from September 25–28, 2019 at HICC in the city. The Congress is organised by CII-IGBC and government of Telangana is the partner State.

S Srinivas, Principal Advisor, CII-Godrej GBC, said that 2,000 delegates, over 100 exhibitors and 500 products will be showcased at the event, for which they are expecting a footfall of around 8,000.
