Rama Narayanan, 64, whose sixth death anniversary it is today was a highly successful helmsman, who had many credits in his favour. In the same year he made his debut as a director, he wrote the script for AVM Productions 'Punnami Nagu', remade from Kannada by director Rajasekhar. This film gave Chiranjeevi a great boost and his first Filmfare Award.

He had many other achievements too. He directed 13 films in a single year, a record unbroken till now. He also ventured into directing films in other languages from Telugu at one end and Marathi at the other. Most notably, he launched 'Action King' Arjun in 1984 with a Kannada remake film ' Nandri', a box-office success. From gods to supernatural stuff with animals playing the lead, his films had a variety which managed to hit the bull's eye most of the times.
