Director of play on Tipu Sultan vindicated as writ petition is withdrawn

The Rangayana Director and author of ‘True dreams of Tipu’ (Tipu nija Kanasugalu) play Addanda Cariappa said that the play has won.
Mysuru: The Rangayana Director and author of 'True dreams of Tipu' (Tipu nija Kanasugalu) play Addanda Cariappa said that the play has won. Speaking to media persons on Thursday he said that the SDPI activist B S Rafeeullah has withdrawn the writ petition filed in State High Court to ban the play Tipu nija Kanasugalu ( real dreams of Tipu) hence the play has won. He said that Rafeeullah in his petition to court alleged that Tipu Sultan was insulted in the play , holy Azaan was used and Muslims were being hurt by calling them as Turkas in the play.
Following the complaint, the court ordered the ban of sale of the book but allowed the staging of the play. He said that the play was staged throughout the state which received overwhelming response from audience.
Cariappa said he had submitted every document to the court defending the points used in the play. He said that it was made clear that no disrespect was shown, except that Azaan was used as a prayer just like Ganapati stotra and bhajan are used in dramas. The tradition of calling Muslims Turkas is in use everywhere. He said that it was made clear to the court that it was not a word used to insult the community.
He said that through historical evidences he submitted documents to the court saying Tipu Sultan was a king, not a freedom fighter. In the play he has shown other face of Tipu Sultan . He produced historical evidence related to the conversion of Kodavas and Mangalore Christians, killing of Melukote Iyengars and destruction of many temples including Hampi to the court.
He said he convinced the court that though Tipu was a Muslim, he was not a representative of the Muslims. He said before the judgement the petitioner has withdrawn the writ petition hence the play has won. He said like how the Prime Minister Narendra Modi changed the name of Mughal Garden in New Delhi and renamed it as Amrita Udyan, Alamatti Udyan should be renamed as freedom fighter Hardekar Manjappa. He demanded that the words Tipu Kote written on the Bellary Fort should be removed.
