Mysuru: Mysuru city police have busted an extortion racket and arrested four persons and a girl. The gang allegedly blackmailed a doctor by threatening to make public a video chip in which he was allegedly seen with the girl.

According to DCP A N Prakash Gowda, the doctor in Periyapatna town in the district had reportedly dropped accidentally the video chip in his clinic in December last year. One Shivaraj is said to have picked up the chip and seen the doctor with the girl in the video. He allegedly started threatened the doctor since January that he would upload the video on social media. Shivraj's friends Harish, Viji and Naveen allegedly joined hands with him in blackmailing the doctor and allegedly demanded Rs 1 crore for hushing up the 'affair'. Yielding to their demand, the doctor reportedly gave them Rs 30 lakh till October this year.

Based on the complaint of the doctor at Kuvempunagar police station in Mysuru, the accused were arrested, the DCP said.

Mr Prakash Gowda said that they were also looking at the possible honey-trap angle and the gang's other extortion activities through similar modus operandi. All the four accused are natives of Periyapatna, he said.
