Mangaluru: In a world besieged by environmental threats, one man is embarking on a unique journey to combat the plastic peril that looms over our ecosystems. Meet Robin Singh, a dedicated environmentalist from Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, who is crisscrossing the country on his bicycle to sound the alarm on the destructive impact of plastic.
As the world grapples with the environmental crisis, plastic has emerged as a nemesis, endangering life in all its forms. Robin's cycling odyssey, aptly named the Green India Abhiyan, is a grassroots effort to traverse every nook and cranny of the nation, creating awareness about the perils of plastic pollution, especially in our vital water bodies.
Hailing from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, Robin commenced his eco-crusade in October 2022, and since then, he has pedalled through the diverse landscapes of both North and South India. Currently stationed in Dakshina Kannada, he tirelessly engages with schools and colleges, focusing on educating the youth about environmental issues and the catastrophic consequences of plastic pollution.
What sets Robin apart is his hands-on approach. He doesn't just preach; he actively participates in clean-up drives and impromptu campaigns, leaving a tangible impact in every region he touches. His journey is not just a ride; it's a moving classroom, where the subject is the urgent need for environmental stewardship.
Having covered thousands of kilometres, Robin's tireless crusade against plastic will culminate in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, in March 2024. His objective is clear—to wrap up the Green India Abhiyan by fostering a lasting awareness that resonates with individuals and communities alike.
“The menace of plastics, especially microplastics, poses a grave threat to human health. The eradication of these plastics is not a choice but a necessity for the survival of all life on Earth. My environmental advocacy is not a one-time event; It is a continuous effort to instill a sense of responsibility and urgency among the masses. I have several more events to be held in support of eradicating plastics in India especially the polythene shopping bags which are now handed out freely to the customers by the shopkeepers, even without the customer asking for it”
