Gachibowli: Sahara, an NGO, organised an awareness camp for children from different schools in slums on adverse effects of junk foods. Dr Radhika Rohini and Dr. S Janani played a video film on "eating junk food - affecting Health". Children were informed about various unhealthy food items and the diseases they cause.

The misconception that only western origin foods are called junk has also been cleared, as there are foods like kurkure, deep fried Mirchi baji, bonda, and other Indian foods which cause harmful effects when consumed regularly.

Children were told about the healthy diet, lunch boxes content, to decrease sugar in their diet and eat fruits in their original form rather than juices. This was an interactive session where children also cleared many doubts. Sahara Director R Narsing Rao stressed the need of eating more millets and asked mothers to play a vital role in preventing their children for eating junk food.

After the awareness camp, all the children were provided with millets and nutritious food items along with notebooks. Maheswari, Srivani, Vanaja, Shivani and other volunteers extended their cooperation.
