Kukatpally: Problems like inadequate drainage, improper roads, mosquito menace and many other civic issues have been troubling the residents of various areas in Kukatpally.

Drainage water overflowing on to the roads is a common sight in Vivekananda Colony, Allwyn Colony, KPHB Colony and Masjid Banda areas. Locals said that the officials have turned a blind eye to the issues and were just providing lip service that the work would be completed soon.

Md Ayaan, a resident of NRSA Colony in Kukatpally, said, "The condition of this area has been the same for the past two years. The bad roads and improper drainage system have been the most common issue in our area. Due to the continuous overflowing of drainage, the condition of the road has become worse and is leading to mosquito menace and unpleasant smell in the area throughout the day."

A single spell of rain is enough for roads to turn into potholes. The sewage overflowing from manholes makes commuting impossible on the stretch of Tulasi Nagar in Allwyn colony.

E Nagender, executive engineer, GHMC Kukatpally, said, "We are submitting the estimates related to damaged roads and by next month works on damaged roads would commence. The annual maintenance contract of 10 roads in Allwyn and KPHB Colonies has been given. We are also searching for private contractors to maintain two lakes - IDL Lake and Ambar Cheruvu in Kukatpally"

The IDL Lake has been in worse condition for the past several months. The lake has not been cleaned and is filled with algae. Heaps of garbage mainly plastic waste are springing on the sides of roads. Add to this, commuters are also facing hardships due to lack of improper bus stops in Kukatpally.

"The Zonal Commissioners have been inspecting the areas with civic issues but there are still no solutions for the problems faced by locals," said Ashok, a resident.
