Heavy downpour brings Rajendranagar to its knees
With a daylong light to heavy showers on Friday, several low-laying areas under Rajendranagar, especially the Attapur stretch (Ring Road), turned into mini ponds due to heavy water logging.

Anticipating a troublesome situation ahead, the GHMC officials and the staff were on alert, who were later seen relieving the clogged outflow, to let the stagnated water get redirected into the drains on the main thoroughfares.
On Friday, though the day witnessed a light shower till noon, however, post noon heavy downpour choked the stretch at different locations under PVNR Expressway, especially from Dairy Farm to Hyderaguda stretch.
This made it difficult for the commuters, especially on Attapur stretch, to move on freely as water reached knee-level and visibility was almost zero on the road. The motorists and pedestrians feared for hidden potholes and manholes under the water.
Vehicles were seen treading cautiously at snail's pace to avoid being stuck in the pools of water on the highway. The worst scene was witnessed at pillar no. 195 under PVNR Expressway, where sleuths of Traffic Police and GHMC staff had to go through a tough task of pushing heavy vehicles stuck in the knee-level inundated water. Some of the school vans too got stuck under the clogged water but traffic police managed to fish them out by nudging them from the rear side.
The GHMC staff including Circle EE Anjaiah, DEE Kumar Goud , AEE Prashanth and monsoon teams were seen clearing water stagnation at pillars in Attapur area,
The situation at low-laying areas in different localities was not too different than the main roads as the residents were forced to stay back at home and gush out the inflowing rainwater from their houses.
The GHMC once again came under severe criticism as a few hours of rains flooded the entire area. GHMC was already facing the wrath of citizens for not containing spread of seasonal fevers in Rajendranagar where positive cases of dengue were being reported.
