Hyderabad: Professor of Law and Registrar, NALSAR University of Law, Prof V Balakista Reddy said lawyers have a sacred duty to work for dispensing justice to the deprived, downtrodden and needy.
Prof. Balakista and former Dean and Professor of Osmania University, Prof G B Reddy addressed the gathering as the chief guest on the occasion of the National Law Day, the Centre for Practicing Law (CLPL) organized a flagship event named "Lex De Futuro" celebrating Samvidhaan Diwas".
Addressing the gathering on a virtual platform, Balakista Reddy emphasized the importance of the Indian Constitution and various constitutional developments happened over the last seventy years. In this regard, the provisions and articles of the Indian Constitution, the judgments pronounced by Apex Courts were highlighted. He said that the legal profession bestows upon the legal fraternity a special role like no other profession and entire legal fraternity has to work hard to uphold the spirit of Law and Justice.
He stressed that the lawyers have a sacred duty to work for dispensing justice to the deprived, downtrodden and needy.
Besides, Prof. Reddy highlighted the recent global developments and their impact on the legal profession. And, how, globalization, liberalization and privatization are posing many legal challenges and Indian lawyers need to take these challenges in the present and future context. For this, he emphasized the need for inventing innovative teaching methods to impart legal education and practice from time to time, given the changing developments of modern society.
Prof.GB Reddy highlighted the need to inculcate constitutional culture and values among the citizens of India. He quoted that "Indian Constitution is the back-bone of the rights and duties of the citizens". The constitution is the supreme law of the land, the legislations, Acts, GOs etc. cannot be contrary to it. He advised the lawyers to improve their lawyering skills viz. reading, writing and articulation skills, court decorum and court courtesy. He said lawyers must possess humbleness, sensitivity to their client to redress their grievances.
On this occasion, Prof. Balakista Reddy and Prof. GB Reddy appreciated ca NALSAR alumni and advocate AP Suresh and his team for establishing a Centre for Practicing Law (CLPL). To work towards facilitating continued legal education and legal practice by providing requisite legal training to the needy.
Earlier, the Director of CLPL, Rajeshwari Thaman, said that the Centre is the first of its kind initiative in India. It provides vocational training and offers unique courses such as law practice before the high court, trial court practice, law practice before special forum & tribunals (State and Central), management of business through Law, Strategies to manage legal disputes in today's environment etc.
She said that the CLPL constituted to pitch in and to fill the gap between the academic and practice of law by roping in the exceptional resource pool of eminent lawyers and professionals drawn from India and overseas. Currently, the programmes were attended by Judges, lawyers, professors, law students, Officials of various Companies etc.
