Hyderabad: Chandulal Baradari residents battle a host of civic problems

Hyderabad: Damaged roads, garbage-filled streets and overflowing sewage have become a perennial problem for residents of the Chandulal Baradari area in Bahadurpura. They have been forced to live with multiple unresolved issues for years. They allege that the colony is devoid of civic facilities and blame the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation for neglecting the area.

No proper roads, narrow streets with sewage overflow in lanes, messy corners with heaps of garbage and dangling wires are scenes which paint the worst picture of the colony. The area and surrounding colonies too face civic problems, like lack of sanitation and inadequate sewage and roads. No storm water lines are available. Residents of most streets are seen throwing filth, being in the city under the Bahadurpura constituency, the area lacks basic amenities.

Other issues like lack of streetlights, proper sanitation, non-lifting of garbage and mosquito menace remains common in the colony. "There is no proper sanitation. Hardly once in a week the by-lanes are swept by the sanitation staff. Several times residents have asked them to clear garbage, but the staff do not oblige. The resultant foul smell is unbearable," said Mohammed Ahmed, a resident of the colony.

Explaining the civic issues, he said there is no proper drainage system in the area as required. "there is no sewage system, no SW drain lines. This results in regular overflow and streets turn into ponds in every rainy season," added Ahmed.

Since the colony came into being there has been no upgradation of sewer and drinking water pipelines. "The upgradation of new pipelines is a must; it is needs to be modified as per new residential needs," pointed out Prasanna, another resident.

One of the areas where city slaughterhouses are located, Chandulal Baradari lacks sanitation. Explaining the unhygienic conditions, Imtiaz Ahmed says that due to the kamela (slaughterhouse) the area is zero in sanitation. "In most streets near the slaughterhouse there is grass, dung and blood. These are hardly lifted. Residents in by-lanes near the kamela face hardships," he adds.

The slaughter house was planned to develop but nothing has been done. There is no parking facility; vehicles are parked on road creating problems for both commuters and residents.
