Hyderabad: Ramannakunta lake overflows; residents face problem

Bowenpally: Due to downpour on Monday the Ramannakunta lake overflowed into lanes in Bowenpally, Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB). Locals allege that every year they face similar situations. Maruthi Nagar, Seetharampuram, Ganesh Nagar, Soujanya Colony and New City Colony, all located on the low-lying side of the lake, are mostly affected.

Said Srikanth of Bapuji Nagar,"whenever it rains, we face the same situation, we are vexed of complaining to SCB officials regarding overflowing. Two years back they assured that they would construct a sewage pipeline, but work is on at a snail pace. Especially during monsoon, it becomes very difficult, as the lake water, along sewage, is entering lanes and houses".

"Locals here are worried of overflowing of sewerage from the lake. Inundation of their houses in case heavy rain continues. Whenever it rains, they are spending sleepless nights as water often enters homes," said Srinivas of Bowenpally.
