With a straight second victory in the recent GHMC elections, Mailardevpally (59) Corporator Tokala Srinivas Reddy has proved mettle and turned the TRS bastion into a saffron fortress. He secured the seat with 18,076 votes against T Premdas Goud (TRS) who got 16,128 votes.

Reddy's calculative pre-election decision to join the BJP has shifted winds in favour of the saffron party in entire Rajendranagar division that resulted in TRS numbing loss in three of five wards, which once enjoyed hold of the Congress and TDP. Of the five wards, BJP won three, which were so far represented by TRS, while AIMIM retained the other two wards.

In an interview to The Hans India, Reddy said during his previous term he ensured a record Rs 100-crore development works in Mailardevpally, including CC roads, sewerage system, a park and public toilets. "One park has already been completed, while another, at Madhuban Colony, is in the pipeline. I have succeeded in getting more box toilets and e-toilets in my ward which has 79,579 voters, highest among all five wards of Rajendranagar division."

His first and foremost priority is to focus on the composite drainage system in Mailardevpally, as several colonies lack the facility. "I will strive to get a few more parks, community halls, mahila mandali buildings, as a part of the next leg of development," he assured.

Reddy assured to address the rampant issue of pollution as a number of industries are not adhering to rules, thereby, polluting air and groundwater, besides spilling hazardous chemicals into water bodies.

The indoor sports complex at Durganagar Kattedan is moving at a snail's space for the last 12 years, as no sufficient funds were released. "Despite repeated representations and visits of former Mayor Bontu Rammohan, twice in my term, the work is yet to be completed," rues the corporator-elect. Asked why he shifted loyalty from TRS to BJP, he said, "I found TRS as a party that always breaches its own promises and tries to go back on commitment to provide succour to the poor through schemes like double-bedroom houses, pensions to all disabled, senior citizens, single widows, Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak. The number of people waiting to receive their rightful dole from the government justifies my charges," he adds.
