Alwal: Ten days after GHMC carried out an anti-encroachment drive at Old Alwal near Satya petrol pump, squatters and illegally parked bikes are back on road. Due to that, the locals are facing hardships once again.

As there are no proper footpaths and these encroachments are further covering the pedestrian space. Pedestrians have no place to walk. Moreover, as the whole footpath is covered with encroachments, it is becoming difficult for locals to walk pass through the area safely," said Dr GV Rao, general secretary of Greater Alwal Allied Service Association (GAASA).

"Encroachments of footpaths also leave no space for bus stop over here and due to this issue, buses are not halting here. We are forced to run behind them. Earlier when we complained to GHMC about this issue, action was immediately taken. But again it has come back to haunt us," said J Arjun, a resident of temple Alwal.
