Kacheguda Station to get a dazzling makeover from today

Hyderabad: The historic Kacheguda Railway Station is set to wear an illuminated look on Monday, as Union Minister G Kishan Reddy will be inaugurating its new facade lighting system. This initiative, funded by the Union Ministry of Tourism with an investment of Rs 2.23 crore, aims to highlight the architectural beauty and cultural importance of heritage buildings.
Kishan Reddy emphasised the government’s commitment to enhancing the visual appeal of such structures, allowing the public to better appreciate their historical significance. Kacheguda Railway Station, built in 1916 during the Nizam era and featuring a distinctive Gothic architectural style, is now adorned with 785 lighting fixtures. These lights are expected to accentuate the station’s majestic design and heritage charm, particularly after dusk.
Situated centrally within the city and serving thousands of passengers daily, the newly lit-up station is set to become a cultural and visual landmark. The enhanced lighting will also help visitors understand and appreciate the station’s rich historical importance.
Beyond its heritage value, Kacheguda Railway Station is also a beacon of green infrastructure. It has been awarded the Platinum Rating by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) for its dedication to environmental sustainability through green energy use. Additionally, it holds recognition as an Energy-Efficient Station by Indian Railways and was notably the first station in Indian Railways to introduce digital payment systems.
Looking ahead, the station is earmarked for significant redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. An investment of Rs 421.66 crore has been allocated to improve passenger facilities while ensuring the preservation of its iconic legacy.
