Officials told to ensure water conservation

Addressing a review meeting on 'Jalashakti Abhiyan' on Saturday, she stated that 23 Telangana districts have been included under the Abhiyan. She had been selected as the nodal officer for the programme in Medchal-Malkajgiri district. Mishra stated that water should be sparingly used so that the saved quantity could be utilized for future. She stressed that future people should be given not assets but water and trees, while suggesting that sapling should be planted for generating pure air.
The JS underlined the importance of recycling the daily used water so that it is not wasted.' Water should be conserved and stored through harvesting pits. If water is saved the groundwater levels will rise', Mishra stated, while calling for a massive public awareness programme.
'If such awareness is created among students their families and society would become aware. Once awareness on everyone planting five saplings is created affection for plants would increase and environmental pollution would decrease. Plants like 'Chinta', 'Vepa', 'Maredu', 'Jama' should be planted.
She called for involving women's and Rythu Samakya organisations besides the media for creating awareness on water conservation. Collector Dr M V Reddy said a 'Jalashakti Abhiyan' committee would be constituted with DRDO as the nodal officer with DPO and officials of the Irrigation, Groundwater and Agriculture departments as members. On July 15 'jala shakthi' rallies, debates and essay-writing competitions for students would be organised.
Among those present at the meeting were JC D Srinivas Reddy, DRO Madhukar Reddy, ZP CEO Daivasahayam, DRDO Koutilya, DPO Ravikumar, DFO Sudhakar Reddy, Irrigation official Manjula, Agriculture Officer Shoba,besides officials of GHMC and Metro Rail, MPDOs, EOPRDs.
