Phone harassment cases come up at the top in hyderabad city
The number of harassment cases throughmobiles and phones is the highest as compared to other cases registered with the SHE Teams.
Hyderabad: The number of harassment cases throughmobiles and phones is the highest as compared to other cases registered with the SHE Teams.
According to a SHE Teams report,332 cases of phone harassment were registered in 2017, 282 cases in 2018 and 289 cases this year till date. The average age group of complainant is between 20-24.
The second highest cases that have been registered by the SHE Teams is 'stalking and harassing'. As many as 174 cases were registered in 2017,187 in 2018 and 114 in 2019 (till date).
Expressing the need for safer environment for women, ShikhaGoel, ACP (Crimes & SIT), Hyderabad, said,"The reason women prefer SHE Teams isthat we areeasily approachable, and the complainant does not have to go throughmany procedural enquiries."
"The reasonfor rise in cases registered by women is because of the awareness created by SHE Teams through special drives. Due to which thewomen are coming forward and registering complaints. Unless and until they come forward and intimate us, the She Teams won't be able to take action," she added.
The report from 2017-2019 (till date) shows that majority of women recorded their complaints by visiting their nearby SHE Teams centre. Since 2018, whatsapp has been the second most popular mediumfollowed by email for women to lodge complaints.
The data reveals that most of the complainants were private employees and students and the suspects were betweenthe age group of 25 to 29 yearsfrom all walks of life.
