Ramakrishnapuram: The members of Federation of North Eastern Colonies of Secunderabad (FNECS) are demanding that the authorities reopen the service road by demolishing the wall near Bison Signals on the southern flank service road at the Cantonment end of the RoB.

It is alleged that the Local Military Authority (LMA) constructed a wall a few years ago resulting in inconvenience to people. C S Chandrasekhar, secretary, FNECS, said, "When the flyover was constructed, GHMC also constructed service roads on its northern and southern flanks, at both the Neredmet and the Cantonment ends.

It is a standard practice to construct such service roads, as they are necessary to allow traffic to take U-turns under the flyover, and to provide access for maintenance of the flyover. The wall constructed by the lMA hinders the free flow of traffic." The vehicles coming from the eastern side on All Saints Road (the direction of Trimulgherry) are blocked from taking a U-Turn under the RoB if they wish to do so.

Similarly, vehicles coming from the northern side (Asha Officers Colony and neighbouring areas), and wanting to go west on All Saints Road (towards Trimulgherry) should first take a left turn onto All Saints Road and then make a U-turn under the flyover. This option is blocked. Hence such vehicles are compelled to obstruct traffic flow on All Saints Road in order to join the west-bound stream.

All this causes chaos in the traffic at the RoB's western end. It also leads to traffic jams on All Saints Road and on the flyover, especially during peak hours. Further, the blocked service road has become a dumping ground, leading to unhygienic conditions.

In September 2018 FNECS had represented to Director Enforcement, Vigilance & Disaster Management (EV&DM) GHMC, to take action to restore the service road. On Thursday, the director, EV&DM, GHMC has again sent a reminder to the DEO.
