Secunderabad: The 20th All India Police Band Competition at Railway Sports Complex, Secunderabad was declared opened by Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, the Governor of Telangana, on Wednesday.

Gajanan Mallya, the GM of SCR, Arun Kumar, Director-General (RPF), and G M Eswara Rao, Principal Security Commissioner (RPF), were present during the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Soundararajan expressed happiness over the fact that out of 74,000 RPF personnel 10% are women and it made the force the number one in the country to accommodate women in security duties. She also was happy to note that during the current year 4,000 more women personnel would be joining the Railway Protection Force which truly shows the women empowerment.

Appreciating the performance of women band team representing Rajasthan, she said that music is very much essential and is part of life. She opined that this is not just an event but time to celebrate togetherness towards nation-building. She said that bands inspire forces with patriotism music.

Around 1400 members representing 22 States and Central Para-Military Forces are taking part in the 20th All India Police Band competition. The competition is being held in three categories, viz., Brass Band, Pipe Band & Bugle Calls. The overall championship trophy will be awarded in the closing ceremony to be held on February 23.
