Nampally: Cyberabad Commissioner of Police VC Sajjanar advised students not to spoil their bright future by getting addicted to social media sites. He was speaking at merit awards presentation programme organised by the state Veerashaiva Lingayat – Linga Balija Association, here at Indira Priyadarshini stadium on Sunday. President of BC association R Krishnaiah and CP VC Sajjanar were chief guests of the programme.

Addressing the students, the Commissioner said students can play a key role in developing a good society, and cited Swamy Vivekananda exhortations to the youth. Congratulating the organisers for providing cash incentives to meritorious students, he said that such encouragement would propel students to greater heights of excellence.

He advised the students to follow the teachings of Basaweshwar, a 12th century social reformer who fought for equality in the society. He thanked the state government for installing a statue of Lord Basweshwar. Speaking on the occasion, Krishnaiah said that he would strive to bring Lingayats, who are currently in BC-D category into OBC category.

Later, the Commissioner of Police handed over cash prizes along with certifications of appreciation to 130 meritorious students who excelled in 10th exams.
