Kapra: Activists of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) staged a demonstration in front of Chaitanya college here after organising a boycott of classes in Gayatri to protest against holding of classes on Sundays in violation of regulations. They accused the education department of failing to take action against corporate colleges.

Addressing the participants, SFI Medchal-Malkajgiri unit president Padala Shankar said the corporate institutions running in the district were not declaring holidays on Sundays in the name of exams, citing the example of Gayatri. He alleged that the college management tried to assault the activists for pointing out that holding of classes on a Sunday was illegal and against rules.

Shankar claimed that the officials concerned were speaking like 'stooges of the private colleges.' He pointed out that the corporate institutions were subjecting students to stress by running classes on holidays, even leading to suicides. He demanded steps by the government to ensure that private colleges declare closure on holidays.

DEO Bhaskar who received a representation told the activists that action would be taken such private institutions. Among those who participated in the demonstration were SFI Medchal district unit vice-president Venkatesh and Kapra mandal activist Sai.
