Nampally: As part of protecting Wakf properties, the State government has started releasing grant-in-aid to different constituencies across Telangana, which would help erect fencing and carry out repairs at important places of worship like mosques, idgahs and also properties like dargah and graveyards.

As part of this endeavour, Minister for Agriculture S Niranjan Reddy called on TS Wakf Board chairman Md Saleem at his office. Saleem handed over a cheque for Rs 48 lakh for construction and repair works of the Masjid and Idgah in Wanaparthy district. Earlier some other constituencies were also presented cheques, so that local public representatives take up works towards ensuring protection of Wakf lands.

Speaking to media persons, Saleem informed besides government funding, funds meant for honorarium of Imams and Mauzzens will also be released. "CM KCR is serious about protection of Wakf lands and hence grand-in-aid is being released for constituencies," he added. He also informed that Rs 1.35 crore would be released for similar works under Karwan constituency and MLA Kausar Mohiuddin had met him earlier in this regard.

"The delay is causing damage, hence various departments including GHMC, Revenue and Wakf would be coordinating in ensuring that there is no more encroachment and desecration of graves anywhere in the State," he added.
