Malakpet: The long-pending demand of the much-needed community halls for the residents of Afzal Nagar and Padma Nagar in Old Malakpet division has been fulfilled. Soon, these areas will have the community halls for organising various functions.

As the residents of Afzal Nagar and Padma Nagar in Old Malakpet division were facing inconvenience in organising even small functions due to absence of community halls, several representations were made by the locals to GHMC, local Corporator and MLA, seeking community halls in their areas. With the support of Corporator and MLA, two community halls have been sanctioned for the residents of Afzal Nagar and Padma Nagar.

Speaking to The Hans India, AIMIM leader Mohammed Saifuddin Shafi said that due to the lack of community halls in Old Malakpet division and surrounding areas, the residents faced hardships in organising their functions.

He said that an amount of Rs 1 crore was sanctioned for the construction of ground plus first floor in Afzal Nagar.

The works were started around 10 days back and would be completed by May. An amount of Rs 30 lakh was sanctioned for the community hall in Padma Nagar and the construction works were commenced a month ago and would be completed within two months, said Saifuddin Shafi.

He said that the community hall located in Afzal Nagar is being construct in 5000 sq ft of land, which is one of the biggest halls with a parking space in Old Malakpet division. Saifuddin Shafi said that he is inspecting the construction sites regularly and instructing the contractor to complete the works as early as possible.

Because of lack of no place for ceremonies, the residents in these areas are conducting small functions by blocking roads which is again causing inconvenience for the commuters as well as the locals. The representation made by locals, with the active support from the MLA, now there will be two community halls for the residents in Old Malakpet, said a resident.
